THE SOCIAL JUSTICE SPEAKERS TENT

The Urban Green Fair may be a campaigning festival with the important aim of fighting climate change, but we are proud to present quality speakers on a wide range of important issues.

12pm: Poets

Corporate Watch poets inspire, enthuse and amuse to warm us up for the day. Includes Danny Chivers and Peter Bearder the Hammer & Tongue Oxford Slam Champion and Runner Up for 2007/08

1pm: Corporations & Conflict
Hands Off Iraqi Oil & War On Want (WoW)
Looks at how the conflicts around us are driven by corporate expoitation and profiteering.

2pm: A New Green Deal Jeremy Leggett
A group of British financiers, economists, and environmental thinkers - including Jeremy - wrote a report called The Green New Deal recently. It argues that to deal with the deadly trio of climate change, peak oil, and the credit crunch a global programme like the New Deal that arose in the Depression of the 1930s is needed. Economies would be rebuilt around infrastructure programmes to save greenhouse-gas emissions. People would be employed refitting buildings for low-energy living and working, constructing low carbon transport infrastructure, and building a renewable energy network.

3pm: Global Europe
World Development Movement & WoW
The term Global Europe, refers to the Europe Union's strategy to secure markets for its companies around the world, especially in developing countries. This strategy will make big profits for big European business at the expense of jobs and livelihoods of people in poor countries. Global Europe will undermine poor countries' plans to trade their way out of poverty. Come along to find out more and join the campaign.

4pm: Tradable Carbon Quotas
David Fleming
Fleming talks us through an idea to ration our individual use of Carbon.

5pm: The Crisis of Civilization: The Imminent Collapse of the National Security State
Nafeez Mosaddeq Ahmed
What's the connection between climate change, peak oil, the food crisis, the credit crunch, and the "Islamist terror" threat? Is the "War on Terror" a cover for a war on our freedoms? Learn about the 'secret history' of the Anglo-
American National Security State, and how the threat of terrorism is being used to divide and control We the People while the global system goes into meltdown.

6pm: Threats to Activism
Campaign Against Criminalising Communities & Plane Stupid
In the light of SOCPA, these two groups highlight some of the legal threats surrounding activism and your right to protest.
